CITY OF ANKENY NEWS

South Ankeny Boulevard Revitalization Plan

This spring the City of Ankeny, with the help of a consulting firm, will begin the process of creating a revitalization plan for South Ankeny Boulevard/Highway 69. The intent of the plan is to establish a new vision for the corridor that capitalizes on the existing traffic and the strategic location between the Delaware Avenue retail corridor and The District at Prairie Trail. The project limits will be from north of East First Street to south of SE Oralabor Road. This comprehensive revitalization plan will identify and recommend:

- the best land uses for the corridor
- identify redevelopment areas
- recommend ways to enhance the existing buildings and properties
- identify streetscape improvement
- recommend implementation strategies to realize the vision

This twelve-month planning process will involve various stakeholders and input from the community who will help create a new vision for the corridor that will attract new investment and more residents and visitors. Information about community surveys and public meetings will be shared on the City of Ankeny website and through social media.

City of Ankeny Construction Projects

It is that time of year when orange construction signs begin going up around the community. As a rapidly growing community we are used to construction projects that reduce congestion and improve traffic flow throughout the community, but road construction projects do cause short term inconvenience. The City of Ankeny has created a website that lists and maps all of the current capital improvement projects throughout the community. Visit https://www.ankenyiowa.gov/458/Maps and use the Construction Projects link to view a map of all the upcoming projects or a detailed description of the various projects, including timeline, detour maps, project manager contact information and progress updates. Significant projects this year include NE Delaware Avenue Phase II reconstruction, SW Oralabor Road and SW State Street intersection improvements and underpass and NW Ash Drive reconstruction, as well several other important projects.

Did you miss ABIC's February 15
Member Meeting?

At the February member meeting, we had a great panel discussion about the Ankeny School District Orbis program. Those involved were Orbis faculty, Orbis students who are highly engaged in the program, and Trent Murphy spoke about his involvement with Orbis. Almost 25% of ABIC's membership are or have been engaged with Orbis. If you or your organization would like to get involved, there is a simple opportunity to allow you to dip your toe in the Orbis water to see if it's a good fit!

Joel Fox, Orbis Project Mentor, shared information about the “adjunct instructor” day. As an adjunct, your role, for whatever time you might be able to commit, would be to interact with teams and offer your coaching and expertise as the students work their way through various projects. This opportunity is intentionally informal and flexible as the student's day-to-day work and team needs vary.
