Salute to Industry Introduces Four New Award Categories and

Announces the Call for Nominations!

The ABIC Board of Directors, along with the Salute to Industry Committee, has approved the addition of four new categories. ABIC will continue to present awards for Commercial Investment, Commercial Reinvestment, Public-Private Partnership, and Person of Vision. The Commercial Investment and Commercial Reinvestment categories will now be divided into two groups: small companies (100 employees or fewer) and large companies (more than 101 employees). The criteria for all awards are as follows:

  • Commercial Investment – A new commercial investment signifies the arrival of a new company in Ankeny. The guiding principle for this distinction is that "dirt must have moved," indicating that the investment is substantial and definitive.
    • Small Company - 100 or fewer employees
    • Large Company - More than 100 employees

  • Commercial Reinvestment - New commercial investments or expansions and improvements by existing Ankeny companies are recognized with an award. A key criterion for this accolade is that "dirt must have moved," signifying that the investment is substantial and finalized.
    • Small Company - 100 or less employees
    • Large Company - More than 100 employees

  • Innovative Company of the Year - recognizes a pioneering organization in Ankeny that has demonstrated exceptional creativity, forward-thinking, and groundbreaking contributions to their industry and community. This award celebrates companies that have successfully introduced novel ideas, technologies, or methodologies, significantly impacted their sector and set new benchmarks for innovation and excellence. The recipient of this prestigious accolade embodies the spirit of innovation, driving progress and inspiring others through their visionary leadership and commitment to pushing boundaries.

  • Community Impact of the Year - honors a remarkable organization in Ankeny that has made significant contributions to the local community. This award recognizes initiatives, projects, or programs that have positively impacted the lives of community members, fostered inclusivity, and promoted social responsibility. The recipient of this award demonstrates a profound commitment to giving back, enhancing quality of life, and building strong community partnerships. Their efforts have not only created tangible benefits but have also inspired others to contribute meaningfully to the welfare and growth of the Ankeny community.

  • Environmental Impact of the Year - honors an exemplary organization in Ankeny that has made outstanding strides in advancing environmental sustainability and stewardship. This award recognizes a company's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, conserving natural resources, promoting eco-friendly practices, and implementing innovative solutions to address environmental challenges. The recipient of this award demonstrates leadership and dedication in achieving measurable positive impacts on the environment, inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices and contributing significantly to the betterment of our planet for future generations.

  • CEO of the Year - Celebrates an exceptional leader in Ankeny who has demonstrated exemplary vision, strategic direction, and impactful leadership throughout the year. This prestigious accolade recognizes a CEO who has driven significant growth, fostered innovation, and shown dedication to the success and well-being of their organization and its stakeholders. The recipient of this award embodies outstanding management acumen, inspires their team to achieve excellence, and sets a benchmark for industry leadership. This award acknowledges not only professional achievements but also the CEO's commitment to ethical leadership, corporate responsibility, and the enhancement of the Ankeny business community.

  • Public/Private Partnership - Collaboration between a public and private organization or group that benefits an Ankeny business or Ankeny as a whole

  • Person (or Persons) of Vision – Unlike the CEO of the Year, the Person or Persons of Vision are recognized for their extraordinary foresight, leadership, and contributions to the community. This recognition is for those who have made significant achievements, introduced innovative ideas, and taken impactful actions that have led to positive changes or advancements in Ankeny.

To nominate a company or individual: 1) verify that the nominee fulfills the award's criteria; 2) send an email with detailed information about the nominee, including company or individual's name, contact details, and any supporting documents; and 3) ensure your submission is sent to [email protected] no later than August 30, 2024.

Have You Heard About the Proposed I-35 Regional Sports Park?

A Regional Sports Complex is being proposed for Ankeny, located on NE 36th Street, to the east of Costco. Led by Honorary Co-Chairs Dennis Albaugh and Jeffrey Lamberti and Co-Chairs Laura & Trent Murphy, this complex will differ from existing sports parks in Ankeny by initially supporting Hockey, Lacrosse, and Softball. Spanning 50 acres, the park will cater to local, metro, and Central Iowa youth. Plans include two indoor ice rinks, seven outdoor lighted multi-sport turf fields, 16 softball and youth baseball fields, and a 93,000 square foot field house for year-round multi-sport use, with all fields featuring turf. The development is scheduled in three phases, which started in Spring 2024 and completing by Fall 2027. For more information about the Sports Complex and involvement opportunities, please contact ABIC member Murphy Enterprizes LLC ([email protected]).

Happy Anniversary to Ankeny Business & Industry Collaborative
